The Day of Surgery

NO FOOD OR LIQUIDS AFTER 12:00 AM PRIOR TO ALL SURGERY:
Your surgery WILL be canceled if you have consumed food or liquids.

NO FOOD OR LIQUIDS 3 HOURS PRIOR TO SURGERY for NITROUS OXIDE/ORAL SEDATION: Your surgery WILL be canceled if you have consumed food or liquids unless otherwise directed.

48 hours prior to: Hydrate well 48 hours prior to your NPO cut off time.

Patients taking a Halcion pill must have an adult to drive you to and from your appointment. Chaperone’s MUST remain on campus during the entirety of your procedure in case of emergency or if your surgery is completed quicker than anticipated. Failure of prompt pick up can result in additional charges for patient monitoring. Patient safety is our number one priority. Minors MUST be accompanied by a chaperone over the age of 18.

Chaperone’s MUST PLAN ON STAYING WITH YOU THE AFTERNOON OF YOUR SURGERY:

They will need to review instructions with you, and help with ice packs, medications and meals. You will not remember the instructions until the medications wear off. Being left alone can result in injury, prolonged bleeding, and pain symptoms.

CHECK IN: You must be checked in 20 minutes prior to your scheduled surgery start time or your surgery may be canceled.

If you wear contact lenses, leave them out on the day of surgery and wear glasses.

SUGGESTIONS:

WHAT TO WEAR:
We recommend it is best to wear comfortable clothing for surgery, a SHORT SLEEVE shirt needs to be worn under any jacket or pullover, for easy access to your arms for IV, blood draws and Blood Pressure monitoring.

FEMALE PATIENTS: Please avoid wearing a dress or romper, as you will have EKG leads placed onto your chest for monitoring. We do request a sports bra be worn the day of as metal underwire can cause issues with monitoring devices.

FOOTWEAR: We request patients wear closed toe shoes to their procedure. Proper footwear
will make it easier to transport you and protect your feet from injury.

POCKETS: We request that patients remove all items in their pockets as items can fall out and into the crevices of the chair and get lost or damaged.

HEADPHONES: Patients are more than welcome to bring and wear their headphones during a procedure if it helps alleviate anxiety and keep you relaxed during your procedure.

SMOKING: No smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible before the day of surgery.

ALCOHOL: The use of alcohol or recreational drugs can have an adverse effect on the anesthesia medications that we use. Please discontinue the use of such for at least 72 hours before your procedure.

FOLLOWING SURGERY:

The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia.
